Two Buda sidewalk projects are moving into construction along Cabela’s Drive and RM 967, filling gaps between neighborhoods, businesses, schools and recreation destinations.
Contractor mobilisation for the Cabela’s Drive section began September 2. That route runs from the Crestview RV entrance to Rylander Street. Work on RM 967 is scheduled to mobilise September 21, covering the section from the McDonald’s entrance to Buda Sportsplex Drive.
The City of Buda expects both projects to be complete by the end of February 2027. Construction schedules can change because of weather, utilities, materials or site conditions, so the completion month should be treated as the current programme rather than a fixed guarantee.
Where the new links will run
The Cabela’s Drive project focuses on the corridor between the Crestview RV entrance and Rylander Street. The RM 967 project fills the gap between the McDonald’s entrance and Buda Sportsplex Drive, improving the approach toward Buda Championship Park and nearby destinations.
These are gap projects, not a reconstruction of every sidewalk in the surrounding area. A new segment can make a route more continuous while crossings, private driveways and adjoining paths still require care.
Residents deciding whether a route suits a child, wheelchair user or person with limited mobility should assess the whole journey, including crossings and temporary construction conditions. Completion of a sidewalk section does not by itself confirm that every connection is step-free.
Traffic and access during construction
The city says it does not expect road closures or flagging operations. Minimal traffic effects are possible when heavy equipment enters or leaves the work area. Drivers should watch for construction vehicles and temporary changes near driveways.
People walking or cycling should not enter unfinished sections. Contractors may need to close short parts of an existing path or create temporary boundaries even when the road itself remains open.
Business and property access can change briefly as work passes an entrance. Anyone with a specific delivery or accessibility concern should contact the project team through the city rather than relying on a general schedule.
What to monitor through February
Useful progress markers include excavation, drainage preparation, forming, concrete placement and restoration. A completed-looking stretch may still be closed while concrete cures or inspections take place.
The work is intended to improve pedestrian connectivity, but residents should wait for the finished route before judging how crossings, lighting and adjoining surfaces function together. Concerns can be documented with the exact location and direction of travel.
Parents and visitors heading to sports facilities should allow additional time around equipment movements. Construction crews and traffic controls should be followed even when an event is beginning or ending nearby.

Reporting a location-specific problem
Residents reporting an access, drainage or traffic concern should identify the exact street segment, direction of travel and time observed. A clear location helps the responsible agency distinguish an active construction issue from an existing condition elsewhere on the route. Emergency hazards should be reported through the appropriate emergency channel.
