Construction is under way on Hays CISD’s fourth comprehensive high school, a 2,800-student campus planned east of Sunfield near an extension of Buda’s Main Street.
The district currently calls the project High School #4 because a permanent name has not been selected. Voters approved its construction in the 2025 bond election, and the campus will join Hays, Johnson and Lehman high schools as the district’s fourth comprehensive secondary school.
Hays CISD says a school-naming process is expected during the 2026–27 school year. Residents, taxpayers, parents, students and employees are expected to be able to suggest names once the district formally opens that process.
What the district has confirmed
The published capacity is 2,800 students. The site is immediately west of South Turnersville Road and east of Sunfield, with a future extension of Main Street reaching the campus.
The district’s page does not establish final attendance boundaries for the new high school. Families should not assume a home will be assigned to the campus based only on distance, subdivision marketing or an informal map.
An exact opening date should also be taken from a later district decision. Construction progress, staffing, roads and boundary planning all need to align before students can begin attending.
How school names are considered
Current district policy allows a new building to be named for a former district employee who made significant contributions and left in good standing, or for a historically or geographically significant site.
The district says a subdivision name without historical significance is not eligible under that policy. A public suggestion will still need to be reviewed under the formal criteria; submitting a name does not reserve it or guarantee selection.
When the process opens, contributors should use the district’s official form and provide evidence supporting historical or educational significance. Social-media suggestions alone may not count as formal submissions.
Growth beyond one campus
Hays CISD is also planning an eighteenth elementary school, designed for up to 900 pupils and tentatively scheduled to begin construction in January 2027. The district says that project is intended to help address growth in its northeastern area.
Attendance-zone changes already in effect for 2026–27 affect parts of the elementary and middle-school network, including capacity pressures involving Buda and Sunfield elementary schools. Those changes do not establish the future high-school map.
Families making housing or transport decisions should consult the district’s current interactive boundary tool and then confirm with student services. Boundaries can change as projects open and enrolment forecasts are updated.

Following decisions in public
Board agendas and meeting records are the strongest source for decisions about naming, boundaries and project timing. Families should look for a final vote or formal district notice rather than treating a proposal, workshop discussion or construction milestone as a completed decision.
Future updates should distinguish the construction site, the final school name, the attendance boundary and the opening timetable. Those are separate decisions and may be confirmed on different dates. Keeping them separate helps families understand what has actually changed.
